Presentations and Conversation Groups

Starting on December 13th, we will split the class in two on Mondays and Tuesdays:

- Group A: Students whose presentation number is odd (impar)
Mondays: 8:30-9:30
Tuesdays: 8:30-9:30

- Group B: Students whose presentation number is even (par)
Mondays: 12:30-13:30
Tuesdays: 9:30-10:30

These classes will be devoted to presentations and conversation.

Thursdays both groups will be together

Fridays:
- Nov 19 and 26: Interviews in my office
- Dec 3 and 10: Oral practice in class
- Dec 17 and Jan 14 and 21: Oral exams

Viernes 15 y 22 de Octubre

Podéis apuntaros en la hoja de clase para las entrevistas de los viernes 15 y 22. Las entrevistas son voluntarias, únicamente si tenéis alguna duda sobre el Portfolio o sobre la asignatura en general.

You have to prepare a presentation, about any aspect of Electronics/ Telecommunications  you are attracted to. Examples:

 

-         Satellite communications

-         Internet

-         Internet history

-         Wireless communications

-         Mobile phones

-         Sound transmission

-         Digital TV

-         An IT company (Apple, Google, Sky, Alcatel…)

-         Radio communications in the 21^st century

-         Solar panels

-         Radar

-         Sonar

-         Digital cameras

-         Microprocessors

-         Bluetooth

-         Car technology

-         Optical fiber

-         Free Software

-         (….)

 

First of all, you need to choose a topic and a date (between March 25 and Jun 3), and then you have to attend one interview with me (March 4, 11, 18).  to prepare the presentation. The presentations should last around 15/20 minutes, and ideally they should be followed by questions and debate. Be careful with the time. Previous experience shows that students get carried away and I hate to interrupt, but I may have to…

 

Bring your own laptop or let me know if you don't have one. We have a projector in class, so try to prepare an attractive Powerpoint presentation for the class. Don’t read aloud!

Objetivos generales y competencias a adquirir en la asignatura:

 

-         Desarrollo de las diferentes competencias comunicativas del idioma inglés: comprensión escrita, comprensión auditiva, expresión escrita, expresión oral.

-         Desarrollo de las estructuras lingüísticas y vocabulario relacionado con el campo de las telecomunicaciones.

 

Evaluación

 

-         Evaluación continua (se requiere la asistencia mínima al 80 % de las clases de lunes, martes y 1ª hora del miércoles):

 

·        Examen parcial (13 mayo): 50%

·        Presentación oral en clase (Miércoles 12:30-13:30):  20%

·        Entrevista oral (“Preparing for a Job Interview”): 20%

·        Asistencia y participación: 10%

 

-         Mediante examen final: 16 de junio, 9:00
